Law enforcement authorities in Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein successfully prevented a suspected far-right arson attack targeting a refugee accommodation facility in Winsen an der Luhe, according to recent statements from officials and investigative reports.

The Flensburg Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a 15-year-old suspect has been placed in pretrial detention. Investigators have accused the teenager of conspiring to commit a crime and preparing a terrorist offense.

A second individual, a 19-year-old resident of Winsen an der Luhe, has also been identified as a suspect in the foiled plot. The involvement of the young suspects has sparked widespread concern among regional lawmakers.

The investigation gained momentum following reporting by journalists who identified the immediate danger and alerted law enforcement, prompting swift action from authorities.

According to internal information obtained by broadcasters, investigators reviewed chat and voice messages exchanged between the suspects detailing concrete plans for the attack. These communications reportedly originated from a larger messaging group associated with young neo-Nazis.

Michael Lühmann, the domestic policy spokesperson for the Green Party's parliamentary group in the state legislature, expressed deep shock regarding the young ages of the alleged perpetrators. He praised the media for their rapid assessment of the threat and thanked them for notifying the police.

Lühmann described right-wing extremism as the most significant threat to democracy in Germany, asserting that bigoted hatred and extremist agitation consistently translate into violent actions. He directly linked the political responsibility for such developments to the Alternative for Germany party, claiming it acts as the parliamentary arm of right-wing extremism and targets youth through social media platforms.
