A 43-year-old man was shot and killed at his front door in the small town of Dingolfing, located in the southern German state of Bavaria, prompting a massive police response and manhunt on Monday afternoon.

According to local law enforcement, an unidentified assailant rang the doorbell of a residence in the Schwedenschanze neighborhood at approximately 12:30 p.m. When the male resident opened the door, the suspect fired at least one shot at him before fleeing the scene.

The victim sustained critical injuries from the gunfire. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts performed by emergency responders, he succumbed to his wounds and died at the scene. Authorities deployed a crisis intervention team to support the victim's family.

Initial findings from police indicate that the perpetrator escaped in a black compact car, potentially featuring tinted windows. The suspect is described as having a rounded face, speaking standard German, wearing a dark hooded jacket, and sporting a mustache.

Law enforcement launched an intensive search operation involving numerous patrol cars and a police helicopter. Around 4:00 p.m., visible street-level search measures were scaled back, but authorities warned that the suspect may still be armed and dangerous.

Investigators from the criminal police department in Landshut, in coordination with the Landshut public prosecutor's office, took over the investigation on-site for suspected homicide. Forensic teams began collecting and securing evidence, while officers focused on questioning potential witnesses.

At this stage of the investigation, authorities stated that no information regarding a possible motive or the precise sequence of events is available. It remains unclear whether the victim and the shooter knew each other, though police noted that a brief conversation took place at the doorway before the shots were fired.

Police have urged members of the public to immediately report any suspicious observations and to avoid putting themselves in danger while the search for the fugitive continues.
