Police Arrest Two Men in Duisburg Following Extortion Kidnapping
Two Dutch suspects were captured outside a victim's apartment after allegedly beating him and demanding money.
German police arrested two Dutch nationals on Wednesday, October 21, on charges of extortionate kidnapping involving a 19-year-old resident of Duisburg, according to local authorities.
The incident began in Eindhoven, Netherlands, where the two suspects, aged 20 and 22, became involved in a dispute with the victim over a small four-figure sum of money.
During the altercation, the two men forced the 19-year-old, who is originally from the Netherlands, into a vehicle. Inside the car, the perpetrators physically assaulted the victim while demanding that he hand over the disputed funds.
The suspects then drove the victim back across the border to his apartment in the Wanheimerort neighborhood of Duisburg to secure the money.
However, unknown to the kidnappers, a family member of the victim had already alerted the police. Officers were waiting at the residence when the vehicle arrived and immediately took the two suspects into custody.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized the vehicle used in the crime, several mobile phones, and a higher three-digit sum of cash.
Warrants have been issued against both suspects, who now face criminal prosecution for their roles in the abduction and extortion plot.
In a separate weather-related development in Duisburg, strong wind gusts prompted warnings from the German Weather Service on Friday afternoon, resulting in a fallen tree that blocked the railway line between Duisburg-Ruhrort and Oberhausen.
