New Zealand secured a convincing seven-wicket victory against India in the fifth and final T20 International at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday, November 1, 2026. After winning the toss and opting to field first, the hosts successfully restricted India to a total of 191/8 in their allotted 20 overs before comfortably chasing down the target with 12 balls remaining.

The home side's chase was anchored by a magnificent performance from Tim Seifert, who smashed 93 runs off 50 deliveries, supported by Glenn Phillips, who contributed an unbeaten 65 off 38 balls. Although India suffered consecutive defeats in the final two games of the tour after winning the opening three matches, Shreyas Iyer and company still claimed the series with a 3-2 margin.

During India's innings, early breakthroughs by New Zealand pacer Adam Milne left the visitors struggling at 19/2 after dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. However, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer mounted an aggressive recovery through a 93-run partnership off 43 deliveries. Kishan scored 61 runs off 32 balls, while Iyer added 50 off 23 deliveries before both set batters were dismissed.

Contributions from Naman Dhir, who scored 33, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who added 22, helped push India to a competitive total of 191. Milne finished as the pick of the New Zealand bowlers with outstanding figures of 4/19, effectively dismantling the lower order.

In response, New Zealand quickly overcame an early setback when Arshdeep Singh dismissed Finn Allen for two runs. Seifert and Phillips took firm control of the match, countering India's bowling attack and capitalizing on fielding struggles, which included several dropped catches. Nitish Kumar Reddy eventually removed Seifert to deny him a century, and Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 29, but these breakthroughs arrived too late to alter the match outcome as the hosts reached 195/3 in 18 overs.

Ahead of the final match, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer made tactical roster changes, bringing in spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar while resting Axar Patel. Speaking about Chakaravarthy's inclusion, Iyer noted that the spinner gave a passionate speech in the team huddle and was eager to perform after waiting for an opportunity.

Reflecting on the series performance, head coach Gautam Gambhir praised the squad's overall effort under challenging conditions and with minimal preparation time following their arrival from the West Indies. Gambhir commended Iyer's leadership with an inexperienced bowling attack, emphasizing the difficulties posed by new venues, weather, and unfamiliar pitch dimensions.
