New Zealand secured an 87-run victory over India in the fourth T20I at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, October 30, bouncing back after losing the first three games of the five-match series. Despite the series already being decided, the Black Caps played with freedom to post a formidable total of 259/7.

After losing the toss, New Zealand capitalized on favorable batting conditions. Finn Allen and Daryl Mitchell started aggressively before Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell put together a phenomenal partnership of 115 runs in just 40 balls. Phillips scored 107 off 49 deliveries, hitting six fours and 10 sixes, while Bracewell contributed a blistering 65 runs from 25 balls.

Chasing the daunting target of 260, India's innings faltered early. Pacer Jacob Duffy dismantled the top order in the first over, removing Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan for ducks. Duffy finished with career-best figures of 4/23 in his four overs, the best performance by a New Zealand bowler against India in T20 internationals.

India attempted to recover through contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, but neither could convert their starts into substantial scores. Tilak Varma added a run-a-ball 35, and Prince Yadav remained unbeaten with 18, but the visitors were ultimately bowled out for 172/9 in their allotted overs.

Reflecting on the defeat, India Captain Shreyas Iyer pointed out shortcomings in the bowling department during the powerplay. "I think we fell a bit short in our bowling to start with. Powerplay, especially in the third over, they got that momentum from there on," Iyer said, while praising Phillips for an exceptional knock. He added that the team would use the match as a learning curve before heading to Hamilton.

New Zealand Captain Mitchell Santner expressed satisfaction with his team's execution and disciplined bowling lengths. "Our lengths, our lines were really good tonight, and there's obviously a little bit in the wicket," Santner stated, acknowledging the value of early wickets in the powerplay.

Player of the Match Glenn Phillips highlighted the importance of making the most of a good batting surface and building momentum with Bracewell. Phillips also addressed a minor hamstring concern, explaining that his limited involvement in the field later in the game was purely precautionary ahead of a busy summer schedule.
