Curry and Warriors defeat Heat for sixth consecutive victory
Stephen Curry scored 29 points and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg added 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the Golden State Warriors' 120-100 win over the Miami Heat.
The Golden State Warriors extended their winning streak to six games on Thursday night, defeating the Miami Heat 120-100 at the Chase Center. Stephen Curry led the charge with 29 points, overcoming a slow start to dominate the second half and guide his team to a 6-3 record in the early going of the season.
Curry struggled early in the contest, making only two of ten shots from the field and scoring seven points by halftime, with the two teams deadlocked at 53. However, the star guard found his rhythm after the break, scoring 22 of his game-high points in the second half. He finished shooting 9-for-19 overall, including six three-pointers, while adding four assists and a steal in 28 minutes of action.
Miami briefly took a 61-58 advantage early in the third quarter following a jumper from former Warrior Klay Thompson. Golden State quickly answered, orchestrating a decisive 26-9 run during the period to take a commanding 91-76 lead into the final quarter. The Warriors maintained their cushion down the stretch, outscoring the Heat 29-24 in the fourth.
Head coach Steve Kerr praised Curry's resilience following the victory. One of the things that makes him so good and special is his ability to bounce back within a game, Kerr noted. Curry echoed similar sentiments, stating that the team has built resiliency through early-season challenges.
Contributions came from across the Warriors' rotation. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg recorded 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Draymond Green contributed a season-high 11 assists and Georges Niang chipped in 13 points off the bench. Golden State recorded assists on 36 of its 42 field goals and converted 16 attempts from beyond the arc.
The Miami Heat fell to a 3-6 record despite strong efforts from their veteran core. Davion Mitchell led Miami with 22 points and eight assists, while Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Bam Adebayo added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Thompson contributed 11 points in his return to San Francisco, but the team's third-quarter slump proved too difficult to overcome.
Following this victory, the Golden State Warriors look to extend their streak to seven games as they host the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
