The Golden State Warriors completed a stunning 25-point comeback to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 112-95 at the Chase Center on Friday, securing their first win of the 2026 NBA Cup. Steph Curry led the charge with 31 points, four rebounds, and six assists, avenging an earlier season-opening loss to their Pacific Division rivals.

Trailing by as many as 25 points in the first half after falling behind 38-15 after the opening quarter, the Warriors turned the tide with relentless defensive pressure and sharp shooting. Golden State outscored Los Angeles 95-55 over the remainder of the contest, achieving a rare feat by becoming the first NBA team in 30 seasons to overcome a 25-point deficit and win by 17 points or more.

The turning point of the matchup arrived in the third quarter when Curry executed a dramatic crossover against Luka Doncic, sending the Lakers star to the floor before sinking a wide-open 3-pointer. The play sparked a massive momentum shift, fueling a stretch where the Warriors outscored the Lakers 52-23.

Reflecting on the highlight during a postgame interview on NBA on Prime Video, Curry remarked that his initial intention was simply to create space. "I didn't expect it to get that nasty, but it was one of those (that) you got to kind of keep your composure," Curry said.

Beyond the team victory, Curry achieved a major individual milestone by passing Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins for 18th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. The historic shot came early in the fourth quarter when Curry drained his eighth 3-pointer of the night off an assist from Draymond Green, bringing his career total to 26,674 points.

Curry now has his sights set on Oscar Robertson, who sits in 17th place on the all-time scoring leaderboard with 26,710 points, putting him just 36 points ahead of the Warriors superstar. If Curry maintains his current pace, he could pass Robertson during the team's upcoming games.

The Warriors' bench played a decisive role in the comeback, outscoring the Los Angeles reserves 50-7. Brandin Podziemski contributed 21 points and six assists, tying the game at 53 just before halftime with a crucial 3-pointer, while De'Anthony Melton added 16 points.

Luka Doncic led all scorers with 37 points for the Lakers, including 21 in a dominant first quarter, but Los Angeles could not withstand Golden State's furious second-half onslaught. With the victory, the Warriors extended their winning streak to three games as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Clippers.
