Wildfire Boars Cause Car Crash and Wrong-Way Collision on Region Highways
Recent traffic incidents in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district involved a wild boar crossing and a dangerous wrong-way driver on the highway.
A series of unexpected roadway incidents recently impacted the Erlangen-Höchstadt district and surrounding areas, including a wildlife-related car accident and a major wrong-way driving collision.
The first incident occurred on Saturday evening along Federal Highway 505 near Höchstadt an der Aisch. A 39-year-old father driving with his three-year-old son was forced to swerve when a sounder of wild boars suddenly crossed the roadway. According to local police reports, the vehicle veered into a ditch and rolled onto its side.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, and although both the father and his young son emerged without visible injuries, they were transported to a hospital for precautionary medical evaluations.
In a separate and more severe roadway event on Monday morning, a wrong-way driver operating a Seat registered in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district traveled in the opposite direction on the A3 highway from the Höchstadt-East interchange toward Regensburg.
A police patrol responding to a different accident narrowly avoided a head-on collision with the wrong-way vehicle by executing a sudden evasive maneuver. Shortly afterward, the car crashed into two other automobiles and a semi-truck carrying hazardous materials with residual gasoline in its tank.
The impact created a massive field of debris across the highway, prompting authorities to cordon off the area as a precaution. The crash resulted in four injuries, with two individuals sustaining minor injuries and two others suffering moderate injuries.
Emergency services, firefighters, and an accident reconstruction expert deployed to the scene to conduct measurements and clear the wreckage, causing the affected section of the A3 to remain completely closed for an extended period.
Meanwhile, residents in the broader region accessed holiday medical services, including designated emergency pharmacies and on-call general practitioners, during regional holiday hours.
