A fatal traffic collision on Friday night in the Banguntapan district of Bantul sparked a dramatic pursuit involving local residents and a Toyota Innova. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the Ketandan intersection on Wonosari Road, resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider and left a passenger injured.

According to the Bantul Police, the Toyota Innova, bearing license plate B-1845-WZ and driven by a 41-year-old freelance worker identified by the initials H, was traveling from east to west. As the vehicle approached the intersection, the driver attempted to turn right toward the Majapahit Ring Road but veered too far across the center line into oncoming traffic.

The maneuver placed the vehicle directly in the path of a Honda Beat motorcycle traveling from the opposite direction. The motorcycle, with license plate AB-4471-BX, was ridden by 24-year-old Nur Alfianto with passenger DAF, 25. Investigators confirmed that the motorcycle rider was unable to avoid the collision due to the short distance between the vehicles.

Nur Alfianto sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, while the passenger suffered open lacerations to the back of the head and abrasions on the right leg. Both the Toyota Innova and the Honda Beat sustained heavy front-end damage, with total material losses estimated at one million rupiah.

Rather than remaining at the scene, the driver fled in the Toyota Innova, prompting a pursuit by local residents. The car was driven northward toward Blok O, headed west toward the Jogja Expo Center, and later turned back before being intercepted and stopped by citizens just east of the Gedongkuning police post.

Footage of the chase quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread public attention and generating online speculation regarding specialized decals near the vehicle's license plate. However, Bantul Police Head of Traffic AKP Ritma Jayanti explicitly clarified that the insignia was not affiliated with the National Police and confirmed that the driver is not a law enforcement officer.

Following the interception, police brought the driver in for questioning. Authorities stated that the suspect, a resident of Wonosari in Gunungkidul, was sober and not fatigued at the time of the crash, but fled because he panicked after a crowd gathered around the vehicle immediately following the impact.

The driver remains classified as a witness while investigators continue gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing the facts of the case. Police officials stated that a formal case screening will be conducted once the investigation is complete to determine appropriate legal proceedings.
