The West Indies secured an eight-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the first Test on Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series after successfully chasing down a target of 170 runs. Opener Brandon King led the charge with an unbeaten 81 off 115 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and a six, while Kavem Hodge provided solid support with an unbeaten 31.

The foundation for the victory was laid by the West Indian spin bowling attack, which dismantled Bangladesh for just 142 runs in their second innings. Captain Roston Chase spearheaded the effort by picking up five wickets for 36 runs, and Jomel Warrican contributed with four wickets for 63 runs, adding to his five-wicket haul from Bangladesh's first innings.

Bangladesh had resumed the fourth day at 79 for six, managing only 63 more runs before being bowled out. Nayeem Hasan top-scored for the hosts with 52, recording his maiden Test half-century, before being dismissed by Chase to complete the captain's five-wicket haul.

Chasing a target of 170 on a difficult pitch, West Indian openers King and John Campbell adopted an aggressive approach against the Bangladeshi spin attack. The pair put on a 112-run partnership for the first wicket, placing their team firmly in control. King reached his sixth Test half-century, while Campbell contributed 49 runs following his 54-run performance in the first innings.

Although Shoriful Islam removed Campbell with a swinging delivery and Hasan Mahmud dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul for one, Bangladesh was unable to apply further pressure. King and Hodge combined for an unbroken 50-run partnership to comfortably seal the win.

Reflecting on the third day of the match in Mirpur, West Indies assistant coach Floyd Reifer praised the bowling discipline that restricted Bangladesh. "We bowled in disciplined areas, stuck to the team plans and everyone really hustled out there in the heat," Reifer stated after the day's play.

The second Test of the series is scheduled to take place in Sylhet next week, where Bangladesh will look to rebound and level the series.
