South Africa secured a commanding 176-run victory over Australia in the decisive third Test at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, claiming the series 2-1. Off-spinner Simon Harmer delivered a stellar performance, claiming his maiden 10-wicket haul in Test cricket to dismantle the Australian lower order on the final day.

Chasing a target of 288 for victory, Australia was bowled out for 111 in their second innings. Kagiso Rabada struck early in the morning session, removing Matt Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head to reach 350 career Test wickets. Harmer then applied immense pressure from the opposite end, capitalizing on the deteriorating pitch.

Cameron Green and Pat Cummins attempted to mount resistance for the visitors, but Harmer's relentless bowling proved decisive. Harmer finished the match with stellar figures of 4 for 104 in the first innings and 6 for 16 in the second, earning well-deserved Player of the Match honors. Marco Jansen was named Player of the Series after contributing 198 runs and 13 wickets across the three matches.

The concluding day's play followed a grueling fourth day where South Africa built a strong foundation through magnificent centuries from Wiaan Mulder and Ryan Rickelton. Mulder top-scored with 115 runs, marking his fourth Test century, while Rickelton added a crucial 101. The pair combined for a vital 150-run partnership for the sixth wicket, pushing South Africa's second-innings total to 387 and setting the imposing target for Australia.

Throughout the series, both teams traded decisive blows. Australia dominated the opening encounter in Durban with a 214-run victory, before South Africa responded emphatically by winning the second Test in Gqeberha by an innings and 31 runs. The final showdown in Cape Town ultimately decided both the series and positioning at the top of the international Test rankings.

Reflecting on the tense encounters, Rickelton noted the competitive nature of the matches. "It's been a special series. It's ebbed and flowed across all three games," he stated, highlighting how both sides fought back through challenging phases before South Africa ultimately clinched the trophy.
