Oman secured their place in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2027 despite dropping a 42-run decision to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday at the ICC Academy grounds in Dubai. The fixture marked the conclusion of the 2024-2026 cycle for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2.

Entering the final match of the league schedule, Oman held the fourth position in the standings. Although they suffered their seventh consecutive loss, finishing level with Namibia on 33 points, they managed to edge out their competitors on net run rate to claim the last automatic qualifying spot.

Asked to bat first, the UAE posted a total of 226 for eight in their allotted overs. Captain Rahul Chopra and Adeeb Usmani each contributed 47 runs, while Basil Hameed added 43 runs. Oman's left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed picked up three wickets for 42 runs.

In response, Oman struggled early in their batting innings and were reduced to 28 for three after Muhammad Rohid claimed two quick wickets. Mujibur Ali led the scoring for Oman with 65 runs, but the team was eventually bowled out for 184 for nine.

By finishing in fourth place, Oman joins champions the United States, Scotland, and the Netherlands as the teams advancing directly from the competition to the 10-team Global Qualifier. These squads will compete for the final opportunities to reach the 2027 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the bottom four teams from the League 2 standings—Namibia, Canada, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates—will continue their qualification journey in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff. They will be joined in the eight-team playoff by Jersey, Kuwait, Italy, and Uganda.

The upcoming playoff tournament offers a final path for those squads to advance to the main qualifier stage, keeping international cricket aspirations alive for all participating nations in the broader 50-over qualification structure.
