New Zealand Posts 259/7 Against India in Fourth T20I Behind Glenn Phillips Century
Glenn Phillips smashed an unbeaten 107 off 49 deliveries to lead New Zealand to a formidable total at Eden Park in Auckland.
New Zealand arrived at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday facing a series deficit against India, with the visitors having already claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. After India won the toss and elected to field first, the hosts put on a commanding batting display to finish their innings at 259 for 7.
The New Zealand innings was anchored by a magnificent performance from Glenn Phillips, who hammered an unbeaten 107 runs off just 49 deliveries. Phillips peppered the ground with eight towering sixes and shared a devastating partnership with Michael Bracewell, who contributed a quickfire 65 off 25 balls to dismantle the Indian bowling attack.
The middle and late overs saw heavy scoring from the Black Caps, particularly between the 11th and 16th overs where they piled up 97 runs. The surge included a brutal 32-run over bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy, featuring four sixes and a no-ball by Phillips, which propelled New Zealand past the 200-run threshold.
Nitish Kumar Reddy endured a difficult outing with the ball, conceding 64 runs in his four overs and taking one wicket. His expensive over equaled the second-most runs conceded in a T20I over by an Indian bowler, matching Stuart Binny's record set against the West Indies in Lauderhill in 2016.
India's chase got off to a disastrous start as opening bowler Jacob Duffy struck twice in the opening over. Duffy removed Sanju Samson for four runs and dismissed returning batsman Ishan Kishan for a golden duck, leaving India struggling at 4 for 2 inside the first over.
Despite India having already secured the series following convincing chases in Christchurch and Wellington, the fourth match brought milestone achievements elsewhere on the field. India pacer Arshdeep Singh made history during the fixture by becoming the first Indian bowler to reach 150 T20I wickets, achieving the milestone in his 103rd match by dismissing New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner.
With a daunting target of 260 runs ahead of them, India faced an uphill battle as New Zealand bowlers continued to pick up crucial wickets through the powerplay and middle overs to defend their imposing total.
