New Zealand Posts Record T20I Total Against India Led by Glenn Phillips
Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell powered New Zealand to a massive 259 for seven at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday.
New Zealand achieved the highest T20 International total ever recorded against India, posting 259 for seven in the fourth match of the series at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday. Opting to field first after losing the toss, the Indian bowling attack faced an aggressive onslaught led by Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell, who kept the pressure high throughout the innings.
The hosts experienced a rocky start after losing Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell early to fast bowler Mayank Yadav. However, a 59-run partnership between Phillips and Finn Allen helped stabilize the innings. Following Allen and Bevon Jacobs' departures, Phillips and Bracewell took absolute control and pushed the scoring rate well past twelve runs per over.
Phillips played a phenomenal knock, scoring 107 runs off just 49 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and ten towering sixes. He reached his half-century in 31 balls and later brought up his third T20I century in only 46 deliveries by hitting a straight six off Arshdeep Singh. During the sixteenth over, Phillips unleashed a massive assault against Nitish Kumar Reddy, hitting four consecutive sixes and a boundary to accumulate 32 runs in a single over.
Michael Bracewell provided crucial support from the other end with a destructive knock of 65 runs off only 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and six maximums. Bracewell targeted left-arm spinner Axar Patel, hitting him for three fours and a six in a single over to secure his own half-century in just 18 deliveries before being dismissed leg before wicket by Prince Yadav.
India's bowling attack struggled significantly against the relentless New Zealand batting display, though Mayank Yadav emerged as the most effective bowler by troubling batters with speeds in the mid-140s. Late breakthroughs by Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Nitish Kumar Reddy helped claim three wickets in the death overs, but the damage was already done as New Zealand finished on 259 for seven.
This imposing total surpassed England's previous record of 257 for three set in Southampton earlier in 2026, marking the highest total by any team against India in the format. New Zealand scored 85 runs across the final five overs, leaving India with a daunting target as they sought to continue their dominance in the five-match series.
