Liverpool Rejects Major Bayern Munich Bid for Rising Star Rio Ngumoha
The Premier League club remains committed to the teenager's development despite significant interest from the German giants.
Liverpool has firmly turned down a substantial transfer offer from Bayern Munich for teenage winger Rio Ngumoha. Reports indicate that the German club was prepared to pay approximately £60 million, or roughly €72 million, to secure the services of the 18-year-old prospect during the summer transfer window.
Despite the significant financial incentive, Liverpool officials reportedly did not entertain the proposal. The club views Ngumoha as a vital part of its long-term future and has prioritized his development at Anfield. Following the rejection of the bid, Bayern Munich ultimately shifted their focus to other targets, eventually signing Ismael Saibari from PSV for €50 million.
Ngumoha’s trajectory since joining Liverpool from Chelsea in 2024 has been marked by rapid growth. The winger made a historic impact in August 2025 during his Premier League debut against Newcastle United, where he scored a stoppage-time winner. At 16 years and 361 days old, he established himself as the youngest goalscorer in the club's history.
His contributions have extended to the European stage as well. In October, Ngumoha became the youngest Liverpool player to record an assist in the Champions League, providing two assists during a 4-3 victory over Villarreal. These performances have solidified his reputation as one of the most promising young talents in European football.
Currently under contract until June 2028, Ngumoha is now the subject of discussions regarding a new long-term deal. Liverpool is reportedly working to secure his future at the club, with talks gaining momentum following the appointment of Julian Ward as sporting director in September. The club is eager to reflect the player's increasing importance within the senior squad through an improved contract.
The financial terms of Ngumoha's initial move from Chelsea remain relevant, as a tribunal previously ruled that Liverpool must pay between £2.8 million and £6.8 million in compensation. Furthermore, Chelsea is entitled to 20 percent of any profit Liverpool generates from a future sale of the player. Despite these contractual obligations and the lucrative interest from abroad, Liverpool remains focused on nurturing the teenager's potential as he continues to earn minutes under manager Andoni Iraola.
