Kitione Kamikamica Joins USON Nevers as Medical Joker

The Fijian back-row player joins the struggling Pro D2 club on a short-term deal to help bolster an inexperienced pack.

Fijian back-row player Kitione Kamikamica has officially joined USON Nevers as a medical joker until the end of December. The 30-year-old forward had been without a club following his departure from RC Vannes during the offseason, bringing an end to a period that included a recent trial with Clermont as they managed their own back-row injuries.

Kamikamica arrives at a critical juncture for Nevers, which currently sits at the bottom of the Pro D2 standings. The team is enduring a difficult start to the campaign, having suffered nine consecutive defeats in its first nine matches and accumulating just four points thus far. Their latest setback came at home on October 30, when they fell 33-12 to Brive at the Stade du Pré Fleuri.

Club President Régis Dumange did not shy away from addressing the team's struggles following the defeat to Brive, openly pointing to roster vulnerabilities. He admitted that relying heavily on a young and inexperienced squad was a major miscalculation by the management.

"We undoubtedly made a big mistake in wanting to play a young, inexperienced team," Dumange stated. "The dads, we lost them. Our pack steps back on impacts, and we are very slow, which prevents us from recovering the ball and setting up our dispossession game."

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing approximately 243 pounds, Kamikamica brings vital size, power, and professional experience to a depleted pack. Over the course of his career in French professional rugby, the back-rower has represented several notable clubs, including Union Bordeaux-Bègles, Brive, Racing 92, and RC Vannes, alongside earning eight international caps for Fiji.

Before signing with Nevers, Kamikamica's last official appearance on the field took place on September 12, when Vannes faced Mont-de-Marsan. Having been away from competitive rugby action for an extended period, the veteran player hopes to hit the ground running and inject much-needed stability into his new club.

USON Nevers will look to turn its season around as the schedule continues. The team prepares for upcoming matches, aiming to regain confidence, find its competitive footing, and climb out of the relegation zone in the weeks ahead.
