AC Milan Closing In on Markus Krösche as New Head of Football
The Serie A club is reportedly nearing an agreement with the former Eintracht Frankfurt executive to oversee its sporting operations.
AC Milan is moving closer to appointing Markus Krösche as the club's new Head of Football, following multiple reports indicating that a verbal agreement has been reached between the executive and the Rossoneri. The potential appointment comes as Milan looks to further solidify its senior management structure following a sweeping restructuring at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Speaking about the prospective hire, media analyst Valon Behrami described Krösche's distinct operational approach in a television appearance. Behrami noted that the executive relies heavily on data analysis balanced with a strong emphasis on the human side of management. 'He wants to understand a young player’s family situation; he does not want to bring in problematic players, even if they have excellent data,' Behrami stated, adding that Krösche often focuses on building for the future rather than strictly addressing immediate needs.
Milan’s pursuit of Krösche dates back to the summer transfer window, when the club initially attempted to bring him to San Siro. Those early efforts stalled because Eintracht Frankfurt was unwilling to release its leadership team so close to the start of the season. Krösche has since left his position with the Bundesliga side, though lingering financial hurdles remain. Reports suggest Eintracht Frankfurt is entitled to compensation ranging between €5 million and €7 million if Krösche takes a new role before the summer of 2027, a fee that Milan has reportedly viewed as steep while negotiations continue.
Alongside tracking Krösche, Milan has also revisited interest in Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Timmo Hardung. While Krösche is currently unattached after departing his post as sporting CEO in September, Hardung remains under contract with the German club, meaning any potential move to Italy could depend on future decisions made by Frankfurt's leadership.
Milan has operated without a traditional sporting director since parting ways with Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and CEO Giorgio Furlani at the end of the previous campaign. In the interim, Massimo Calvelli has taken on the role of CEO, Hendrik Almstadt serves as director of player trading, and Bobby Gardiner functions as the director of football intelligence.
Club officials have indicated that an official announcement regarding Krösche could arrive soon, with Italian outlets suggesting the club aims to formalize the appointment by the start of December. As negotiations progress, Milan prepares to integrate the former Bundesliga executive into a revamped front office tasked with steering the team's long-term sporting strategy.
