The eighth round of the French Top 14 concludes on Sunday night with a highly anticipated matchup between league leaders Stade Toulousain and third-place Section Paloise at Stade du Hameau in Pau, France. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET, with live streaming available in the United States via FloRugby and the FloSports app.

Toulouse enters the weekend atop the standings holding 28 points, while Pau sits closely behind in third place with 22 points. Both squads have established themselves as formidable contenders in the domestic league, making this fixture crucial for the upper tier of the standings.

Despite the high-profile nature of the clash, both teams will take the field severely depleted. Roughly thirty players from Toulouse and around twenty from Pau are unavailable due to injuries or international call-ups for upcoming national team duties. Key French internationals such as Peato Mauvaka, François Cros, Antoine Dupont, Romain Ntamack, and Kalvin Gourgues remain with the national squad in Marcoussis to prepare for the Nations Championship, alongside Pau players Thomas Laclayat, Hugo Auradou, Emilien Gailleton, Théo Attissogbe, and Aaron Grandidier-Nkanang.

Pau head coach Sébastien Piqueronies has named a competitive starting XV featuring Argentina captain Julián Montoya at hooker, fly-half Joe Simmonds, and back-rower Beka Gorgadze. The team aims to capitalize on home advantage and protect its unbeaten record at Stade du Hameau.

Reflecting on the challenge of facing the perennial league leaders, Pau player Loïc Credoz emphasized the need for absolute dedication. « If we are not motivated by that, we must stop playing rugby. We are forced to have a surplus of commitment and desire », Credoz noted.

Teammate Rodrigo Marta echoed those sentiments, acknowledging the depth of both clubs despite the extensive absences. « There are absentees, but I feel it is going to be a very high-level encounter. Our two clubs are in the top four and we have deep squads », Marta stated.

On the opposing side, Toulouse head coach Ugo Mola leans on his club's extensive depth to navigate the fixture. The visiting starting lineup features Scotland international Blair Kinghorn at fly-half, back-rower Anthony Jelonch, and winger Teddy Thomas, as the defending champions look to extend their dominance at the summit of the Top 14 table.
