The New Zealand national rugby team and New Zealand Rugby are in mourning following the sudden death of their Head of Security, Logan Cadwallader, who passed away in Edinburgh after suffering a medical event at the team hotel. The tragic incident occurred while the squad was in Scotland preparing for an upcoming weekend Test match against Scotland at Murrayfield.

Cadwallader was a widely respected figure within the organization, having spent a decade traveling alongside the team. New Zealand Rugby confirmed that over the past ten years, he became an integral, much-loved, and deeply trusted member of the All Blacks environment.

All Blacks Head Coach Dave Rennie expressed the profound grief felt by players and staff alike, emphasizing that the team is struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss.

“Logan has been a big part of the All Blacks family for a long time. He was the ultimate team man, loved and trusted by all and a true professional. He looked after all of us, players and staff, and he was a good mate to many in this team,” Rennie stated.

Rennie added that the team is completely devastated by the news. “Our thoughts are with his wife, Nannette, his children, Trey, Brooke and Mia, and his wider family and friends. As a team, we will honour Logan and the legacy he has left on the All Blacks.”

New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Lancaster also paid tribute to Cadwallader, highlighting his decade of dedicated service as a valued member of the management group.

“Logan was a valued and trusted member of the management group over the past decade, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who worked alongside him. On behalf of New Zealand Rugby, I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very difficult time,” Lancaster said.

Before joining the All Blacks, Cadwallader established a distinguished military career serving his country at the highest level within the New Zealand Defence Force. He served in the New Zealand Army and the elite New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment, taking part in demanding international deployments to Bosnia, East Timor, Afghanistan, and the Solomon Islands.

New Zealand Rugby announced that it is currently providing support to Cadwallader’s grieving family, as well as to the players and staff members coping with the sudden tragedy during their tour.
