The International Cricket Council sets the 2027 Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup schedule while multiple franchises reportedly pursue Hardik Pandya in IPL trade talks.
The International Cricket Council has officially released the schedule for the 2027 Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal. The tournament is set to run from January 21 to February 6, featuring 16 national teams competing across 41 matches in venues located in Chattogram, Sylhet, and Kathmandu.
Defending champions India will launch their bid for a third consecutive title against the West Indies on January 22. India previously claimed victory in the inaugural South Africa 2023 edition under Shafali Verma and the Malaysia 2025 edition led by Niki Prasad. Placed in Group A, the defending champions will also face Ireland and co-hosts Nepal during the group stage.
The tournament opens on January 21 with four opening fixtures. Co-host Bangladesh will match up against the United Arab Emirates in the morning at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, while Australia takes on Nigeria later that afternoon. Over in Kathmandu, Sri Lanka meets Scotland and England faces the United States.
Following the conclusion of the group stage on January 26, the top three qualifying teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. The remaining contenders will be divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each advancing to the semi-finals scheduled for February 4 in Chattogram, leading up to the final on February 6.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta emphasized the importance of the tournament for developing young talent globally. "The ICC U19 World Cup is the stage that showcases the future of our sport and serves as the ultimate platform for young players to make the leap towards elite careers representing their countries," Gupta stated.
Gupta added that selecting Bangladesh and Nepal as hosts highlights the organization's investment in emerging cricket regions, noting that nearly 40 percent of the combined population in those countries is under the age of 20. The event is expected to inspire a new generation of players across the region.
In professional league news, the Indian Premier League trade market has seen intense activity surrounding Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Three separate franchises are currently in advanced discussions with Mumbai regarding a potential trade, with a formal announcement anticipated at the start of November ahead of the November 15 retention deadline.
Although multiple teams have shown interest, Mumbai Indians maintain ultimate control over the decision and could ultimately choose to retain their captain for the upcoming season. Pandya has spent recent weeks at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru working toward full fitness after missing competitive play following the conclusion of the previous season.
