Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are squaring off in a new bilateral series hosted at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. The encounter follows Afghanistan's dominant performance in a recent tri-series final in Abu Dhabi, where they secured a resounding victory over Zimbabwe to boost their preparations ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027.

During the recent tri-series final, Zimbabwe elected to bat first but struggled against a disciplined Afghan bowling attack. Captain Sikandar Raza scored 68 runs and Ryan Burl added 31, but the team was restricted to a target of 170. Afghanistan chased down the total comfortably in the 35th over, anchored by an unbeaten 70 runs from Ibrahim Zadran and strong contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah.

The ongoing fixtures mark a continuation of intense competition between the two sides. The present tour features a three-game T20I series, which runs from October 27 through November 1, followed immediately by a two-game Test series scheduled from November 5 to November 17 at the same venue in Sharjah.

Afghanistan enters the T20I matches with squad adjustments, led by Ibrahim Zadran as captain. Key players such as Mohammad Nabi and Darwish Rasooli have been omitted from the T20I roster, while Mohammad Akram returns following his debut at the Asian Games. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe continues under the leadership of Sikandar Raza, welcoming back Innocent Kaia after recovering from a thigh strain, though veterans Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine are absent from the squad.

Historically, Zimbabwe has never won a T20I series against Afghanistan, presenting a significant challenge for the squad as they look to turn the tide in the UAE. Both teams are utilizing these matches to build momentum and evaluate younger talent before transitioning into the longer Test format later in November.

Cricket fans across the globe can follow the action through various regional broadcasters and digital platforms. Viewers in the United States and Canada can watch the matches live on Willow TV and stream through the Willow app by Cricbuzz, while coverage spans across India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan via dedicated sports networks and streaming applications.
