Jacob Allen Morley, a convicted murderer who escaped from a Tennessee correctional facility more than a week ago, was captured on Tuesday near Kansas City, Missouri. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the multi-state manhunt ended around noon when local and state authorities took the 28-year-old inmate into custody without further incident.

Morley had been on the run since the night of Sunday, October 25, when he escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County, Tennessee. According to the Tennessee Department of Correction, surveillance footage revealed that Morley hid behind the prison kitchen, cut through perimeter fences, and fled the facility while wearing his prison uniform.

Investigators determined that shortly after breaking out, Morley stole a 2008 Ford F-350 utility truck and drove across state lines into Illinois. Surveillance cameras tracked the vehicle to Marion, Illinois, where it was abandoned early Monday morning. After eluding law enforcement for over a week in the southern Illinois area, Morley struck again early Tuesday by stealing a second vehicle, a white 2005 Ford pickup truck used as a farm vehicle.

The breakthrough in the search occurred when the stolen farm truck was detected entering Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, automated license plate reader technology alerted officials to Morley's trajectory on Interstate 70 near Independence. Law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, converged on the area as a police helicopter tracked the vehicle.

Authorities noted that Morley was believed to be armed with multiple weapons as officers moved in. His vehicle eventually went off the roadway and became stuck in Carroll County, near the town of Norborne, where a state trooper confronted Morley and successfully took him into custody.

Prior to his capture, Morley was serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole following his conviction for the 2022 murder of his co-worker Cody Birchfield in Carter County, Tennessee. Court records from the trial indicated that Birchfield was shot in the back of the head and his body hidden in a metal box beneath Morley's residence. Following his escape, family members of the victim voiced public safety concerns, describing him as a dangerous individual.

The multi-agency operation involved extensive coordination among local, state, and federal law enforcement partners across Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri. Officials have not yet announced formal charges regarding the prison break or the subsequent vehicle thefts, and extradition details remain pending as the investigation continues.
