George Madgwick, the leader of Reform UK on Hampshire County Council, has been formally charged with 35 criminal offenses involving four victims over a 13-year period. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the charges, which include 12 counts of rape, multiple assaults, and making indecent images of a child.

According to law enforcement, the alleged offenses occurred between 2008 and 2021 across Portsmouth and Wales. The four victims involved were aged 16 and 17 at the time of the incidents. In addition to the rape charges, the 37-year-old politician faces two counts of assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault, eight counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of making indecent images of children.

The extensive list of charges also includes two counts of controlling or coercive behavior, a single count of distributing an indecent image of a child, causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child, stalking, making threats to kill, false imprisonment, theft, and criminal damage.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated that their investigation into Madgwick commenced on July 24, 2025, after authorities received a report of a sexual offense. Officers initially arrested him on January 6, 2026, before the CPS ultimately decided to bring formal charges.

A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized that prosecutors carefully reviewed the evidence to determine that moving forward with the case served the public interest. "Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to bring the case to court," the spokesperson stated, while also reminding the public that proceedings are active and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.

In response to the developments, Reform UK announced that Madgwick has been suspended from the party with immediate effect. Madgwick represents North East Havant on Hampshire County Council and Paulsgrove on Portsmouth City Council.

Madgwick is scheduled to make his appearance at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on November 25. Authorities have urged the public and media to refrain from sharing any commentary or information that could potentially prejudice the ongoing legal proceedings.
