The Golden State Warriors orchestrated a historic comeback on Friday night, overcoming a 25-point first-half deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 112-95 in an NBA Cup matchup. Trailing significantly early in the game, the Warriors staged a massive turnaround to improve their record to 3-3 on the season while handing the Lakers their second loss.

Los Angeles dominated the opening quarter, jumping out to a commanding advantage largely driven by Luka Doncic, who scored 21 of his game-high 37 points in the first period. The Lakers established a 40-15 lead early in the second quarter and appeared firmly in control of the contest at the Chase Center.

However, Golden State mounted a fierce response before halftime. Sparked by stellar play from Stephen Curry and critical contributions from the bench, the Warriors erased the deficit entirely by the intermission, tying the score at 53-53 heading into the locker rooms. According to historical records, the Warriors became the first team since 1954 to trail by 23 or more points in the first quarter and manage to tie the game by halftime.

Curry led the charge for Golden State with 31 points, shooting 8-for-14 from beyond the arc. His offensive brilliance included highlight-reel plays that energized the home crowd and shifted the momentum firmly in favor of the Warriors during the second and third quarters.

The Golden State bench proved to be a decisive factor, outscoring the Lakers' reserves 50-7. Veteran guard De'Anthony Melton delivered a vital spark off the bench, contributing 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 21 minutes of action. Melton shot efficiently from the field, including hitting four three-pointers, and capped off his defensive effort with a clean steal against Doncic late in the game.

Brandin Podziemski also aided the comeback effort with 21 points and six assists, making crucial defensive plays and drawing charges during key stretches of the game. Meanwhile, Georges Niang added 11 points off the bench, shooting 3-for-5 from distance to help maintain the Warriors' offensive pressure.

With the victory, Golden State took an early lead in West Group C of the NBA Cup tournament. The Warriors will look to build upon their three-game winning streak when they host the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Lakers prepare to face the Toronto Raptors.
