UPSC Civil Services Mains 2026 Results Expected in November
Candidates who participated in the August examination are awaiting the official release of the list of qualifiers for the upcoming personality test.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is anticipated to release the results for the 2026 Civil Services Examination (CSE) Mains in early to mid-November. While the commission has not yet provided an official date for the announcement, the results are expected to be published on the official website, upsc.gov.in, as a PDF document containing the roll numbers of successful candidates.
The Mains examination, which serves as a critical stage in the selection process for prestigious roles such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), took place from August 21 to August 30, 2026. A total of 13,343 candidates qualified for this round following the preliminary stage.
Historical data from previous examination cycles suggests that the commission typically declares written results between 70 and 75 days after the conclusion of the final paper. For instance, in the 2025 cycle, the results were released on November 11, following an August examination schedule. Based on this pattern, observers expect the 2026 results to be available within the second week of November.
Once the results are officially posted, candidates can access them by visiting the 'Written Results' or 'What's New' sections of the UPSC website. The process involves downloading the PDF file and using the search function—typically activated by pressing Ctrl + F on a computer—to locate their specific roll number within the document.
Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the published list will be eligible to advance to the final phase of the selection process: the Personality Test, also known as the interview. This stage is designed to evaluate a candidate's intellectual traits, social awareness, leadership potential, and overall suitability for a career in public service.
Following the announcement of the Mains results, those who qualify will be required to complete further administrative formalities, including the submission of a Detailed Application Form (DAF). The final merit list for the 2026 cycle, which determines the successful candidates for the civil services, is expected to be finalized and released around March or April 2027 based on the combined performance in both the written examination and the interview.
