Scott Parker officially returned to West Ham as the club's new head coach on Wednesday, taking over a two-and-a-half-year contract following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo earlier in the week. His opening night in charge delivered immediate drama as the east London club staged a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against Cardiff City.

The visiting supporters experienced a difficult first half at Cardiff City Stadium as Jack Moylan secured a dominant first-half hat-trick for the home side. Moylan opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a right-foot drive from the edge of the D that left visiting goalkeeper Mads Hermansen helpless in the top left corner.

Moylan extended Cardiff's lead in the 37th minute by converting a penalty after he was brought down in the box. Just two minutes later, Cardiff added a third when Will Fish headed toward goal, with Moylan getting the final touch to seal his hat-trick before halftime.

The match transformed completely after the break, as West Ham responded with a determined offensive push. Divine Mukasa reduced the deficit in the 58th minute by finishing calmly over Nathan Trott following a precise long ball from Jarrod Bowen.

Arne Engels capitalized on a defensive miscommunication in the home penalty area shortly after to narrow the scoreline to 3-2. The dramatic turnaround was completed in the 82nd minute when Bowen delivered an inviting cross from the right, allowing center-back Max Kilman to turn the ball in from close range and level the score at 3-3.

The appointment and subsequent comeback arrive during a busy period in English football league action. Elsewhere across the competition, league leaders Middlesbrough suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Wrexham, while Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a late 2-1 victory over Bristol City thanks to two late goals from substitute Sean Neave.
