Palermo Defeats Vicenza 3-1 to Extend Lead at the Top of Serie B

Palermo secured a 3-1 comeback victory against Vicenza on Sunday at the Renzo Barbera stadium, extending its lead at the top of the Serie B standings. The match, valid for the tenth round of the championship, coincided with the 126th anniversary of the founding of Palermo.
The visiting side started the match aggressively, stunning the home crowd just two minutes into the game when Nicola Brighenti scored from a corner kick. Despite falling behind early, the team led by manager Filippo Inzaghi maintained composure and gradually worked its way back into the encounter.
Dennis Johnsen leveled the score for the hosts just before halftime at the 45-minute mark, capitalizing on a scrambled play inside the penalty area after having an earlier goal disallowed. The equalizer shifted the momentum heading into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Palermo completely turned the match around. Dominic Vavassori put the hosts ahead in the 53rd minute by beating goalkeeper Alessandro Gagno with a precise shot from the edge of the area following a setup by Jacopo Segre.
Vavassori sealed the victory in the 85th minute with an impressive individual effort, curling in his second goal of the evening and his fourth of the season to finalize the 3-1 scoreline. The performance earned high praise from sporting director Carlo Osti, who before kickoff had challenged the squad to honor the anniversary without making fools of themselves.
Vicenza coach Fabio Gallo acknowledged the strength of the league leaders prior to the match, noting that his team faced a formidable challenge. Despite a strong effort from the visitors, the defeat leaves Vicenza in 16th place with nine points, lingering in the playout zone.
With this latest success, Palermo moves to 26 points, establishing a six-point advantage over second-place Modena and seven points over Ascoli. The Rosanero will look to continue their strong run on Friday, November 6, when they travel to face Ascoli in the eleventh round of the campaign.
