New Zealand concluded the T20I series on a high note by defeating India in the fifth and final match at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday. The hosts successfully chased down a target of 192 with two overs to spare, courtesy of a brilliant 93-run knock off 50 balls by opening batsman Tim Seifert and an unbeaten 65 from Glenn Phillips.

Despite the loss in the finale, the Men in Blue secured the series victory by winning the first three encounters. India posted 191 for eight in their allotted 20 overs, driven by strong half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. However, the bowling unit struggled to defend the total as New Zealand reached 195 in 18 overs.

The defeat brought scrutiny to India's bowling tactics and fielding performance during the match. Former India spinner Murali Kartik defended the bowling unit after the game, stating that bowlers are often made into soft targets when things do not go according to plan. Kartik also pointed out that catching has been a persistent issue for the team over the past year.

Addressing the composition of the bowling attack, former player Ambati Rayudu noted the absence of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the white-ball leg of the tour. Rayudu argued that relying heavily on all-rounders creates challenges when trying to close out games without a specialist match-winner like Bumrah.

For the series finale, India made strategic changes to their lineup, handing leg-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy his first appearance of the series and bringing back Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel was left out of the playing XI following an expensive outing in the fourth match in Auckland, where he conceded 43 runs.

Reflecting on Chakaravarthy's inclusion, captain Shreyas Iyer mentioned that the spinner was eager to play. "He's been waiting for his opportunity and today I feel that even in the huddle, he gave us a beautiful speech. So he's pumped up and he's looking forward for this contest," Iyer said.

With the conclusion of the T20I series, India's focus now shifts to the upcoming five-match ODI series, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at Eden Park in Auckland.
