Nancy Dominates Red Star 4-1 to Climb to Third in Ligue 2
AS Nancy-Lorraine secured its fifth consecutive victory on Monday night at Bauer Stadium, while Reims defeated Sochaux to remain undefeated.
AS Nancy-Lorraine delivered a strong performance on Monday evening, defeating the Red Star 4-1 away from home in the closing match of the 11th round of Ligue 2. The decisive victory at Bauer Stadium allowed Nancy to secure third place in the league standings, continuing an impressive run of form that has seen the team win five matches in a row.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Ilyes Housni. However, the Red Star responded quickly when Théo Magnin leveled the score in the 30th minute. The hosts then squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead before halftime when Damien Durand missed a penalty kick in the 39th minute.
Nancy capitalized on the missed penalty just before the break. Nehemiah Fernandez restored the lead for the visitors deep into first-half stoppage time, netting in the fourth minute of added time to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Nancy pulled away completely. Jérémy Gélin extended the advantage to 3-1 in the 61st minute, and El Hadary Raheriniaina sealed the emphatic victory by scoring the fourth goal in the 86th minute, capping off a dominant offensive display by the visiting squad.
With this latest triumph, Nancy climbs to 22 points, moving into third place in the table. They sit just behind Montpellier with 24 points and league leader Saint-Étienne with 25 points, the latter having suffered a defeat against Guingamp earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, the Red Star suffered its second consecutive defeat, leaving the club stalled at 17 points after struggling to contain Nancy's potent attack. The team will need to address its defensive vulnerabilities moving forward to regain momentum.
In Monday's other Ligue 2 fixture, the Stade de Reims secured a 2-0 victory against Sochaux at Auguste-Delaune Stadium. Reims settled the match within the opening eleven minutes, thanks to quick goals from Sambou Soumano in the 6th minute and Yaya Fofana in the 11th minute.
The match between Reims and Sochaux had been rescheduled to Monday evening at the request of the prefecture of Marne. With the win, Reims remains the only undefeated team in Ligue 2, climbing to fourth place with 21 points and positioning itself right behind Nancy in the tightly contested upper tier of the standings.
