Miyoko's Creamery Plant-Based Butter Recalled Over Contamination Concerns
More than 1,300 cases of plant-based butter distributed across ten states have been recalled by the FDA due to potential yeast, mold, and E. coli contamination.
Federal health regulators have issued a risk classification for a voluntary recall affecting a popular plant-based butter brand distributed across ten states. The action involves more than 1,300 cases of Miyoko's Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter following concerns regarding potential contamination with yeast, mold, and E. coli.
The Food and Drug Administration officially classified the recall as a Class II risk level. This designation is applied when the use of, or exposure to, a product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or when the probability of serious health outcomes remains remote.
The voluntary product recall originally commenced on September 11. Distribution of the affected items impacted ten states, specifically including Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin.
Health authorities have urged consumers residing in the affected regions to thoroughly check their refrigerators and freezers. Because the product is perishable and maintained under refrigerated or frozen conditions, individuals possessing the specified packages are advised to avoid consumption until further guidance is provided.
The recalled merchandise is sold in eight-ounce packages featuring the Universal Product Code 857554005773. Secondary packaging consists of corrugated shipping cases containing six individual units of the eight-ounce product.
Specific identifying markers for the affected merchandise include a lot number of 07871 and a best-by date of November 5, 2026, printed on the solid bleached sulfate carton packaging. For shipping cases, the designated lot number is 1007871 alongside the same best-by date of November 5, 2026.
As of reporting, health officials have not confirmed whether any consumers have fallen ill after consuming the impacted items. Information regarding product returns or refunds was not immediately detailed on the brand's official website, and representatives for Prosperity Organic Foods, the Boise, Idaho-based company that acquired Miyoko's Creamery last year, have not yet provided public comments on the matter.
