Aldi Expands Recall of Farmdale Long-Life Milk to New South Wales
The recall, initially limited to Victoria and South Australia, now includes select stores in New South Wales due to microbial contamination concerns.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has expanded a recall for Aldi’s Farmdale 1L Full Cream Long-Life Milk to include select locations in New South Wales. The recall, which was first announced on October 23 for Victoria and South Australia, now encompasses stores in Albury and Lavington, New South Wales.
The decision to pull the product from store shelves stems from reports of microbial contamination. According to health authorities, this contamination indicates that the milk has undergone spoilage, meaning organisms have grown within the product despite the sterilization process typically used for long-life milk.
Long-life milk is generally heated to at least 135 degrees Celsius during production to destroy bacteria, allowing it to be stored at room temperature for extended periods. The presence of microbes in these specific batches suggests a failure in that process, rendering the product unsafe for consumption.
The recall is strictly limited to one-liter cartons of Farmdale Full Cream Long-Life Milk that bear a best-before date of June 5, 2027. No other varieties of the brand, such as skim, light, or plant-based alternatives, are included in the safety notice.
Officials have issued a clear warning to the public regarding the potential health risks. FSANZ stated, "Consumers should not eat this product," and advised that anyone who has already consumed the milk and is concerned about their health should seek medical advice immediately.
Customers who purchased the affected milk are urged to return the items to the place of purchase to receive a full refund. For further information or assistance, Aldi has established a dedicated recall hotline at 1800 709 993, and additional details are available on the supermarket chain's official website.
