Miyoko's Creamery Plant Milk Butter Recalled in 10 States Over E. Coli and Mold Concerns
More than 1,300 cases of the vegan butter were recalled after testing detected potential contamination.
Over 1,300 cases of plant-based butter produced under the Miyoko's Creamery brand have been recalled across 10 states after testing uncovered potential contamination with yeast, mold, and E. coli. The nationwide recall encompasses thousands of individual packages of European-style plant milk butter distributed to retail locations across the Midwest, the South, and the East Coast.
The voluntary recall was initiated on September 11 by distributor Prosperity Organic Foods, Inc., based in Boise, Idaho. The Food and Drug Administration later designated the matter as a Class II recall on October 23. Under federal regulatory definitions, a Class II designation indicates that exposure to or consumption of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, while the likelihood of serious negative consequences remains remote.
Federal records indicate that the recall impacts exactly 1,304 cases, which represent a total of 7,824 individual retail units. As of the latest regulatory disclosures, no illnesses or adverse health reactions have been confirmed in connection with the affected plant-based butter.
The distributed butter was shipped to retail stores across 10 states: Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin. Consumers residing in these states or those who purchased groceries while traveling through them are being urged to inspect their refrigerators and freezers.
Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking the labels and batch markers on individual packaging. The primary recall applies to eight-ounce packages of Miyoko's Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter bearing the universal product code (UPC) 857554005773. These items feature lot number 07871 and carry a best-by date of November 5, 2026.
The secondary packaging also carries identifying information for those who purchased or received products by the case. The corrugated six-pack shipping containers, identified under the name Miyoko's Creamery Organic European Style Plant Milk Butter with a net weight of three pounds, display lot number 1007871 alongside the matching November 5, 2026 expiration date.
Official notices have offered differing details regarding formal return processes for customers. While certain regulatory updates indicate that consumers who bought the item should throw it out or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund, other recall notices omitted specific refund instructions. Health authorities emphasize that anyone possessing the product should avoid eating it regardless of reimbursement procedures.
In addition to safely disposing of or returning the butter, food safety guidelines advise consumers to thoroughly wash and sanitize any kitchen areas that came into contact with the product. Shelves, refrigerator bins, cutting boards, and utensils should be cleaned to mitigate any risk of cross-contamination in home environments.
