Kayem Foods Recalls Over 1.5 Million Pounds of Meat Products Due to Storage Issues
A cooling system malfunction at a warehouse prompted a nationwide recall of various ready-to-eat meat and poultry items.
Kayem Foods Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for approximately 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products following reports that items were delivered at unsafe temperatures. The recall, which impacts a wide range of goods including hot dogs, bacon, ham, and sausage, was initiated after a retail customer reported receiving products that were warm upon delivery on October 1, 2026.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has classified this as a Class I recall, the most serious category, indicating a reasonable probability that the consumption of these products could result in severe health consequences or death. The issue was traced back to a cooling-system malfunction involving three fans at one of the company's warehouses, which caused temperature deviations during the storage of the affected items.
The recalled products were manufactured between March 31, 2026, and October 7, 2026. These items were distributed to retail and foodservice locations across the United States, as well as to Hong Kong. The affected merchandise is identifiable by one of three establishment numbers located inside the USDA mark of inspection: "EST. M/P 7839," "EST. P 20935A," or "EST. M 9520."
A variety of brands are included in the recall, such as Kayem, Al Fresco, McKenzie, Triple M, Deutschmacher, Jordan’s, Essem, and Winnisimmet. Specific items listed in the recall include Kayem Beef & Pork Hot Dogs, Double Smoked Thick Cut Bacon, Slow Smoked Beef Brisket, and various chicken sausages. Retailers such as Walmart and Stop & Shop have begun removing the impacted products from their shelves and implementing sales blocks.
While the recall is nationwide, major retailers noted that the distribution was heavily concentrated along the Eastern Seaboard, including states such as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Kayem Foods has confirmed that the warehouse cooling issue has been addressed and the malfunctioning equipment has been repaired or replaced.
As of the latest update, there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses or injuries linked to the consumption of these products. However, federal officials and the company are urging consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for any items that may be part of the recall. Consumers are advised not to eat these products and should instead discard them or return them to the original place of purchase for a refund.
For those who may have concerns about potential health impacts, officials recommend contacting a healthcare provider. Kayem Foods has provided a comprehensive list of affected products and is encouraging customers with questions to reach out to their customer service department at 800-426-6100 or via email for further assistance.
