Minnesota United kept its postseason aspirations alive on Sunday evening with a decisive 3-1 victory over LAFC at BMO Stadium. The visiting side put on an efficient and disciplined performance, extending their unbeaten run to six games and increasing their points total to 41 as they fight for a spot in the MLS playoffs.

Despite entering the match in sixth place with 47 points, LAFC struggled to find its rhythm against a compact and organized Minnesota defense. The hosts finished the contest with 22 total shots, but managed only seven on target as visiting goalkeeper Drake Callender came up with several crucial saves to thwart the home side's attacking stars.

The breakthrough for Minnesota arrived in the 29th minute. Following a long throw-in from Cherrion Valerius that bounced around the penalty area, an unmarked Joaquín Pereyra collected the ball and drove a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, opening the scoring for the visitors.

Just five minutes later, Minnesota doubled its lead. Valerius initiated a buildup from the right side, exchanged passes with Kelvin Yeboah, and surged into the box to finish past Lloris for his first career goal with the club, stunning the home crowd and putting the Loons ahead 2-0 before halftime.

LAFC attempted to mount a comeback throughout the opening half and into the second period, with Son Heung-min and Denis Bouanga heavily involved in orchestrating the attack. Son tested the defense and created opportunities for teammates such as Igor Jesus and Mathieu Choinière, but the Minnesota defensive block, anchored by Morris Duggan and Callender, repeatedly stifled their efforts.

Minnesota cemented its victory in the 81st minute when another turnover high up the pitch allowed Mauricio González to spark a counterattack. González set up Pereyra, who unleashed a curling, driven shot from outside the box that beat Lloris for his second goal of the night, extending the lead to three.

LAFC managed a late consolation goal in the final minute of regulation when Sergio Vásquez scored with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom right corner following a buildup in the center of the penalty area. However, the effort was not enough to alter the outcome as Minnesota closed out the match.

With the win, Minnesota United brings its tally to 41 points with one regular-season game remaining against San Jose on Decision Day, where they will need another victory and outside help to clinch a postseason berth. LAFC remains in sixth place with 47 points as the regular season draws to a close.
