Junior de Barranquilla experienced another difficult outing on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Llaneros FC at the Bello Horizonte-Rey Pelé stadium in Villavicencio. The match, part of the 17th round of the Liga BetPlay, exposed the defensive frailties and lack of tactical balance that have plagued the visiting team throughout the campaign.

Without any mathematical possibilities of advancing to the semifinal group stage and playing solely to fulfill the calendar, Junior displayed the same shortcomings that have marked their tournament run. The squad from Barranquilla struggled to control decisive moments, suffering from defensive vulnerabilities and difficulties during offensive transitions.

The home side opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Frank Castañeda received a pass on the left flank and delivered a cutback to Juan José Ramírez, who successfully slotted the ball into the net. Despite maintaining some possession, Junior appeared lethargic during the opening half, with only a few players showing urgency.

Junior managed to equalize shortly after the second half began in the 49th minute. Yimmi Chará advanced into the area and unleashed a left-footed shot that deflected off a defender and past goalkeeper Juan Camilo Loaiza to make it 1-1. However, defensive lapses quickly undid their efforts.

Llaneros reclaimed the lead in the 55th minute when Jhojan Escobar capitalized on an aerial cross from John Vásquez to head home the second goal. Junior fought back once more, leveling the score at 2-2 in the 73rd minute after Guillermo Paiva converted a penalty kick awarded for a handball inside the box by Juan Pertuz.

As the match neared its conclusion, another defensive error sealed Junior's fate. Francisco Fydriszewski committed a handball inside the penalty area in the 77th minute, prompting referee Andrés Rojas to award a second penalty. Néider Ospina converted the spot-kick in the 80th minute, securing the 3-2 victory for the team from Villavicencio.

Following the final whistle, forward Yimmi Chará offered a candid assessment of the team's mental and collective struggles. 'As the coach says, many mistakes at the back cost us a lot of goals. I think that has been the difference, that we haven't been clinical up front, and at the back, we haven't been able to be that solid team we were in previous championships,' Chará stated.

Assistant coach Mario Roberto Viera also addressed the tactical missteps that contributed to the defeat, pointing to defensive disorganization during opponent counterattacks. 'When we attacked, we didn't know how to respond. I think a bit of desperation, the situation the team is living, which is undoubtedly not normal, leads you to make conceptual errors,' Viera explained.

With this result, Llaneros climbed to the 13th position in the standings with 20 points, bolstered by defensive solidity led by players like Dennys Quintero. Meanwhile, Junior remains stuck in 16th place with 16 points. The team will close out the all-play-all phase by hosting Cúcuta Deportivo on Monday, November 9, at the Romelio Martínez stadium.
