China is actively developing advanced space-based technologies and orbital weapons designed to disable or destroy foreign satellites, according to a recent report released by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. The report, titled Challenges to Security in Space, details how Beijing has steadily expanded its orbital capabilities since 2006, utilizing systems such as the Shijian-17 satellite equipped with a robotic arm to grapple other spacecraft.

The defense agency noted that China conducted 93 space launches in 2025, more than tripling its orbiting systems since 2016. Furthermore, the DIA highlighted increased Chinese investments in Antarctica, noting that research stations in the region could potentially be used to monitor signals from allied nations such as Australia and New Zealand.

In the Middle East, Jordanian security forces intercepted automatic weapons smuggled across the border using hot air balloons. According to the Public Security Directorate, Karak police seized nine automatic firearms and GPS devices from a suspicious bag in the Muhi area that had drifted across the southern border.

The successful weapon seizure in Jordan follows a security operation that led to the arrest of three suspects linked to a shooting at a church funeral in the village of Hmoud, which resulted in nine fatalities. Authorities continue to investigate cross-border smuggling tactics utilized in the region.

Domestically in the United States, a routine traffic stop in San Mateo, California, escalated into a police chase, wrong-way driving, and the subsequent recovery of a major illegal weapons haul. Local police attempted to pull over a Dodge Journey for vehicle code violations before the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

After losing sight of the vehicle, officers tracked the suspect to a residence on 36th Avenue, where a foot pursuit ended in an arrest. A subsequent search warrant executed at the property led law enforcement to discover tactical AR-15-style machine guns, firearm components, gun magazines, scopes, and a large quantity of ammunition.

In college athletics, Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti recently discussed his offense under quarterback Josh Hoover while comparing the current roster to the 2025 national championship team led by Fernando Mendoza. Cignetti noted that while Hoover has performed exceptionally well with 18 touchdown passes and only one interception, his predecessor enjoyed greater depth and experience among offensive personnel.
