Juventus Defeats Napoli 2-0 as Hojlund Sidelined by Virus
Stunning second-half goals from Kerim Alajbegovic and Jeremie Boga secured a crucial Serie A victory for Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus secured a 2-0 victory against Napoli at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on November 1, 2026, during Matchweek 10 of the Serie A season. The home side capitalized on a lackluster second-half performance from their opponents to claim all three points and bounce back from a previous defeat against Genoa.
Napoli suffered a major blow just before kickoff when starting striker Rasmus Hojlund was forced to withdraw due to a viral infection. With Hojlund sidelined alongside several other regular starters, manager Massimiliano Allegri—who was serving the final match of a two-match touchline suspension and watching from the stands—had to adjust his lineup, deploying Lorenzo Lucca at the center of the attack.
The first half remained tightly contested with few clear scoring opportunities, though Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made a crucial save to deny Lucca. However, the match changed dramatically after the break as Napoli struggled to maintain momentum and suffered additional injury setbacks, with Kevin De Bruyne and Giovanni Di Lorenzo substituted at halftime.
Juventus broke the deadlock in the 70th minute through Kerim Alajbegovic, who struck a brilliant shot from outside the box. Jeremie Boga sealed the win in the 87th minute with a nearly identical long-range effort, punishing the visiting defense for backing off and allowing too much space in dangerous areas.
Assistant coach Marco Landucci, who managed the Napoli bench in Allegri's absence, acknowledged the team's shortcomings after the final whistle. "Quite simply, we had a bad second half and Juve deserved to win. When you lose, you have to just stay quiet and accept it," Landucci told DAZN Italia, adding that the team's mounting injury list should not serve as an excuse for their performance.
The defeat leaves Napoli stranded in eighth place in the Serie A standings with 14 points, now sitting nine points adrift of the Champions League qualification spots. Meanwhile, the victory provides manager Luciano Spalletti and Juventus with much-needed relief and renewed confidence as they climb back closer to the top tier of the table.
