Napoli surged to a commanding 4-1 victory over Monza at the U-Power Stadium on Wednesday in Serie A action, breaking away in the second half through clinical finishing and defensive blunders by the hosts. Led from the sideline by assistant coach Marco Landucci while manager Massimiliano Allegri served a touchline suspension, the visitors climbed to seventh place in the league standings after turning a tightly contested first half into a rout.

The match started at an intense pace, with Napoli taking the lead after just ten minutes. Giovanni Di Lorenzo delivered a precise through pass to Rasmus Hojlund, who created space against the Monza defense and struck a cross shot into the net to end his goal drought dating back to September 5. Napoli suffered an early blow shortly after when midfielder Stanislav Lobotka sustained a serious ankle injury and had to be removed on a stretcher, making way for Billy Gilmour.

Monza fought back vigorously through rapid transitions, centering their offensive efforts around Portuguese forward Gustavo Varela. Their persistence paid off in the 43rd minute when Jay Robinson floated a delivery into the penalty box. Varela executed a well-timed glancing header past Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to equalize at 1-1, netting his eighth goal of the Serie A campaign just before halftime.

The balance shifted decisively right after the restart as defensive lapses undermined Monza's efforts. In the 48th minute, Matteo Politano capitalized on a loose ball in the penalty area, driving a low strike into the bottom left corner to restore Napoli's lead. The visitors widened the gap just past the hour mark when Spanish defender Rafa Marin rose during a corner kick to power a header into the net in the 62nd minute.

Kevin De Bruyne entered the match as a substitute and made an immediate impact, putting the contest out of reach in the 67th minute. Receiving an assist from Noa Lang, the Belgian midfielder slipped a clean finish through the legs of Monza goalkeeper Tornqvist to cap the 4-1 triumph. Despite generating an expected goals tally of 1.78, Napoli demonstrated high efficiency by converting their opportunities into four decisive goals.

Following the match, Monza head coach Ivan Juric expressed mixed feelings regarding his squad's display. Juric remarked that his team produced an excellent first-half showing and began the second half adequately, but lamented that they subsequently began gifting goals to the opposition through basic defensive errors. Juric also praised Varela's rapid development and humility, noting that the forward has significant room for growth.

Varela's standout form has drawn substantial transfer scrutiny across Europe. Purchased from Benfica last summer, with sources citing fees between 2.5 million and 3.5 million euros, the striker has reportedly attracted scouting interest from Premier League sides, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, and Juventus. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna was also in attendance alongside Allegri to evaluate Varela, with valuation estimates in Italian media ranging between 20 million and 25 million euros.

Meanwhile, Napoli assistant coach Landucci addressed outside criticism of the club's tactical approach and acknowledged the mounting injury toll ahead of their upcoming clash against Juventus. Landucci defended Allegri, noting that critics complain regardless of whether matches end 1-0 or feature high-scoring scorelines. He expressed concern over Lobotka's health, confirming that the midfielder suffered significant ankle damage, which leaves the squad short-handed as they prepare to face former manager Luciano Spalletti.
