Actor Jon Hamm stars in the dramatic anthology series American Hostage, which is currently streaming on MGM+. The project brings to life a tense historical event from 1977 in Indianapolis.

The series re-creates the true story of Tony Kiritsis, a man who kidnapped a mortgage broker after blaming the broker's family for his financial struggles. During a 63-hour standoff, Kiritsis demanded a live on-air interview with Fred Heckman, a beloved local radio reporter portrayed by Hamm.

William Jackson Harper, who stars alongside Hamm as reporter and mentee Ben Hairston, expressed initial disbelief when reading the script. Harper noted that he was eager to join the late-1970s project and joked about wearing a mustache for the role.

Beyond his current work in American Hostage, Hamm's extensive television career includes numerous memorable appearances. Long before his iconic role as Don Draper in Mad Men, Hamm made a guest appearance on the television series Gilmore Girls.

In the season three episode titled "Eight O'Clock at the Oasis," Hamm portrayed a character who met Lorelai Gilmore at an auction. The two went on a single date, which Lorelai later described as terrible, leading to his character's departure from the show.

As American Hostage continues to stream, viewers have the opportunity to watch Hamm tackle a dramatic historical role, reflecting on why individuals who feel voiceless sometimes resort to extreme actions.
