India Secures 19-Run Victory Over Pakistan to Claim Asian Games Cricket Gold
India triumphed over Pakistan in the final to retain the Asian Games cricket title during a successful campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
India captured the men's cricket gold medal at the Asian Games by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final showdown. Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 211/6, driven by an explosive 61 runs off 28 deliveries from Abhishek Sharma and an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls by Tilak Varma, alongside a 27-run contribution from Shivam Dube.
In response, Pakistan fought hard, bolstered by Hasan Nawaz's impressive 96 runs off 51 balls, but the Indian bowling attack held firm. Bowlers Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube each claimed two wickets to restrict Pakistan to 192/6, successfully securing back-to-back Asian Games cricket titles for India.
This victory completed a historic cricket double for India at the Games, as the women's team had previously claimed the gold medal in their respective tournament. Meanwhile, Pakistan found success elsewhere in the multi-sport event, winning the Plate final at the Hong Kong Sixes tournament after previously capturing the title in 2025.
India concluded their overall campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in fourth place in the final standings. The nation accumulated a total of 85 medals, consisting of 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals, marking the second-best performance in the country's history at the event.
The final day of competition proved particularly fruitful for the Indian contingent, yielding a nine-medal haul that included five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. This late surge allowed India to finish ahead of Uzbekistan, with both nations tied at 21 gold medals but India holding the advantage with 27 silver medals compared to Uzbekistan's 25.
In addition to cricket, India's final-day success featured triumphs in wrestling and hockey. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat secured gold in the men's freestyle 57kg category by overcoming North Korea's Han Chong-song 11-7, while the defending champion men's hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1 to retain their title and secure an Olympic quota for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
