England captain Harry Brook achieved a historic milestone on Thursday during a tri-series one-day international match against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan. Brook became the first English player to score a double century in the 50-over format, setting a new global record for the fastest double ton in men's ODIs.

The English skipper reached the double-century mark in just 114 balls before getting out two deliveries later for 202 runs off the final ball of the innings. His remarkable knock featured 10 sixes and 21 boundaries, propelling England to a formidable total of 429-4, which stands as the team's fourth-highest ODI score.

Brook surpassed the previous record held by Indian captain Shubman Gill, who reached a double century in 116 balls against the West Indies in Guwahati the previous month. Brook's progression through the innings included reaching his first century off 75 balls, hitting 150 with a ramped boundary over fine leg, and completing his second century in 39 balls with a paddle sweep against Janith Liyanage.

The captain was supported by fellow batsmen throughout the innings. Joe Root contributed 69 runs, becoming the first Englishman to surpass 8,000 ODI career runs. Will Jacks added an unbeaten 66 runs from 30 balls, and Tom Banton chipped in with 50 runs after Sri Lanka elected to field first.

Sri Lanka's bowling attack struggled under the onslaught, particularly during the closing stages where Brook and Jacks added a rapid 156 runs in the final 10 overs. Fast bowlers Eshan Malinga and Dilshan Madushanka conceded 91 and 89 runs respectively without taking a wicket.

Dasun Shanaka, returning to one-day internationals after a hiatus of more than two years, also faced heavy pressure from the English batsmen, conceding 74 runs across his six overs. Left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage proved to be the most economical bowler for Sri Lanka, finishing with figures of 2-56.

Both England and Sri Lanka entered the match searching for their first victory of the tri-series following initial losses to Pakistan. The high-scoring encounter highlighted England's aggressive batting depth as the team prepares for the remainder of the tournament.
