Sri Lanka secured a remarkable two-wicket victory over England in the third match of the tri-nation ODI series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, successfully chasing down a daunting target of 430 with just one ball to spare. The contest featured the second-highest successful run chase in One Day International history, trailing only South Africa's legendary chase against Australia in 2006.

Batting first after losing the toss, England posted a massive total of 429 for four in their allotted 50 overs, setting the highest ODI total ever recorded in Pakistan. England captain Harry Brook delivered a historic performance, scoring a double century off just 114 balls to register the fastest double century in ODI cricket. Brook finished with 202 runs from 21 fours and 10 sixes, becoming the first English batter to reach the milestone in the format.

Brook received strong support from his teammates during the innings. Tom Banton contributed 50 runs, Joe Root added 69 runs while crossing the milestone of 8,000 ODI runs, and Will Jacks provided an explosive late finish with an unbeaten 66 off 30 deliveries. Despite the formidable batting display, England's bowlers struggled to defend the total on a flat pitch impacted by heavy dew.

Sri Lanka faced a disastrous start to their response, losing both opening batters, including captain Kusal Mendis for a golden duck, to fall to 24 for two within the first five overs. However, Pavan Rathnayake launched a fierce counterattack alongside Avishka Fernando, putting together a 166-run partnership for the third wicket to stabilize the innings.

Fernando narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 97 off 83 balls before being caught by Jamie Overton. Rathnayake continued to dominate the crease, compiling a brilliant 130 off 106 deliveries with 15 fours and three sixes. Experienced all-rounder Dasun Shanaka further accelerated the scoring rate with an explosive 97 off only 50 balls, featuring six fours and eight sixes.

As the match entered its tense final overs, English bowler Josh Tongue claimed quick wickets in the final frame to give his side a glimmer of hope. However, Janith Liyanage held his nerve at the crease, remaining unbeaten on 61 off 27 balls. Liyanage sealed the historic victory by hitting a maximum off the fifth delivery of the 50th over.

During the bowling innings for England, Josh Tongue picked up three wickets, Sam Curran claimed two, and Jamie Overton and Liam Dawson secured one wicket each. The high-scoring encounter saw a total of 859 runs scored on the night, concluding with Sri Lanka celebrating a historic triumph in the tri-series.
