England captain Harry Brook made cricket history on Thursday by scoring the fastest double-century in men's One Day International (ODI) history during a tri-series match against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan. Brook hammered an unbeaten 202 runs from just 116 balls, reaching his double-century in 114 deliveries to break the previous record set by India's Shubman Gill last month.

Displaying remarkable agility and wristwork, Brook hit 21 fours and 10 sixes, recovering from a cautious start where he managed only 13 runs from his first 24 balls. His phenomenal knock surpassed Ben Stokes' previous English record of 182 not out against New Zealand in 2023 and marked the first ODI double-century ever recorded by an England batter. Powered by Brook and a fast half-century from Will Jacks, England finished their innings at 429 for 4, setting the highest team total in an ODI in Pakistan.

Sri Lanka faced a daunting target of 430 under the lights in Rawalpindi. Their chase began poorly when bowler Gus Atkinson removed Avishka Fernando and dismissed Kusal Mendis without facing a ball due to a deflection runout. Despite resistance from players like Kamindu Mendis and Avishka Fernando, the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled to maintain the required run rate against the English bowling attack.

The ongoing tri-series also features host nation Pakistan, with all three teams using the tournament as crucial preparation for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi emphasized the importance of the series in settling team strategies, noting the urgency for traditional powerhouses looking to improve upon recent tournament disappointments.

Broadcast coverage for the tri-series features a commentary panel of former international players including Mark Butcher, Aamir Sohail, and Waqar Younis, with Zainab Abbas presenting the event. Teams are playing each other twice before the top two sides meet in the final scheduled for October 31 in Lahore.

As the tri-series continues, both England and Sri Lanka are looking to fine-tune their rosters ahead of upcoming fixtures. While Sri Lanka entered the match seeking stability following earlier tournament losses, Brook's historic performance underscored England's aggressive batting depth under subcontinental playing conditions.
