Frosinone Hosts Lecce at Stadio Benito Stirpe in Serie A Midweek Clash

The high-flying hosts aim to preserve their perfect home record against former manager Eusebio Di Francesco.

Frosinone welcomes Lecce to the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Thursday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the ninth round of the Serie A season. The midweek fixture pits one of the league's most surprising attacks against a visiting side striving to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone. The encounter also features a notable return to Ciociaria for Lecce manager Eusebio Di Francesco, who guided Frosinone during the 2023–2024 campaign that ended with a final-day drop to Serie B.

Under manager Massimiliano Alvini, Frosinone has enjoyed an explosive start to the domestic campaign. The yellow-and-blues have accumulated 14 points through eight fixtures, with four victories, two draws, and two losses, placing them within the upper ranks of the standings. Their offensive capabilities were fully showcased in their recent 4-4 draw against Atalanta in Bergamo, bringing their season total to 17 goals. Built on rapid counter-attacks and early pressure, Alvini's team has produced 17 counter-attacking transitions and 146 total attempts on goal, trailing only Inter, Como, and Roma in total shots across the league.

A win on Thursday would mark a historic achievement for the newly promoted hosts. Frosinone has won its first three home matches this season and could secure four consecutive Serie A home victories for the first time in club history. Reaching that milestone would also make them only the third newly promoted club in the three-points-per-win era to win their first four home games, joining Chievo in 2001–2002 and Hellas Verona in 2013–2014. Additionally, scoring once would push their tally to 18 goals in nine matches, matching Verona's 2013–2014 benchmark, while two goals would tie Fiorentina's record of 19 set in 1994–1995.

Lecce enters the contest sitting on nine points from eight matches, looking for stability after a turbulent stretch. Following a commanding 3-0 road triumph against Udinese, the Salento club suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Juventus. While Di Francesco's men have demonstrated an ability to win possession in opposing territory, they have struggled to convert turnovers into clear chances. Lecce has also shown vulnerability early in matches, conceding eight goals within the opening 30 minutes, an issue that could prove costly against a Frosinone side that has netted nine goals in that same timeframe.

Frosinone received positive squad updates ahead of kickoff following their final training sessions. Midfield playmaker Giacomo Calò resolved recent physical discomfort and is expected to start in Alvini's preferred 4-2-3-1 setup alongside either Patrizio Masini or Cichella. Central defender Calvani also shook off fatigue sustained in Bergamo to partner Monterisi at center-back, while Cittadini was cleared for a spot on the bench. Up front, Antonio Raimondo is slated to lead the attack, supported by Romano Schmid, Fares Ghedjemis, and Giorgi Kvernadze.

Lecce faces personnel adjustments in defense due to the suspension of center-back Kialonda Gaspar. Di Francesco called up Tiago Gabriel, who is in contention to start in central defense alongside Siebert in a 4-3-3 formation. Up front, Willem Geubbels is projected to lead the forward line as the central reference point, flanked by wingers such as N'Dri or Ndaba and Fatah or Monteiro, with a midfield trio tasked with slowing down Frosinone's rapid transitions.

The historical series between the two clubs consists of 28 official meetings across multiple divisions, marked by balanced home results where each side has recorded five victories and four draws in Ciociaria. In top-flight competition, the teams met twice during the 2023–2024 season, resulting in a 2-1 Lecce win at the Stadio Via del Mare and a 1-1 draw at the Stirpe. However, Frosinone has not defeated Lecce in their last six official meetings across Serie B and Serie C, giving Thursday's match added significance as the hosts chase both history and league points.
