Atalanta and Frosinone Play Out Eight-Goal Thriller in Serie A
An extraordinary 4-4 draw unfolded at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia as Atalanta and Frosinone traded goals in an action-packed encounter.
Atalanta and Frosinone delivered an unforgettable eight-goal thriller, playing to a 4-4 draw in their Serie A match at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia. The high-scoring affair featured multiple standout performances, including braces from Romano Schmid and Nikola Krstovic, but left both sides searching for defensive stability.
The hosts experienced a disastrous start when an errant back-pass from Ederson allowed Schmid to easily sweep the ball home within the opening 30 seconds of the match. Despite dealing with a severe injury crisis that sidelined key players such as Sead Kolasinac, Giorgio Scalvini, and Franck Kessie, Atalanta attempted to regain their composure.
Atalanta responded in the 14th minute when Charles De Ketelaere delivered a precise pass to release Krstovic, who calmly finished from close range to equalize. However, Frosinone reclaimed the lead shortly after when Fares Ghedjemis set up Schmid for his second goal of the match in the 17th minute, following a brief VAR review for a potential offside.
Trouble mounted further for Atalanta when Raoul Bellanova was forced off the pitch due to a muscular injury in his right thigh. Soon after, a penalty was awarded to the hosts after Giorgio Cittadini was penalized for handling the ball inside the box, allowing Ederson to convert from the spot in the 33rd minute and make up for his earlier defensive mistake.
Just before halftime, Atalanta took the lead for the first time in the match. Zappacosta delivered a low cross that Krstovic met cleanly from six yards out, putting the hosts ahead 3-2 heading into the interval.
The second half commenced with immediate drama as Frosinone leveled the score at 3-3 in the 48th minute. Giacomo Calò met a pullback from Ghedjemis at the edge of the area and struck a first-time shot into the far top corner.
The stalemate lasted only moments before Atalanta surged back in front. De Ketelaere drove into the penalty area and found Krstovic, who unselfishly set up Eljif Elmas to score from close range and restore a 4-3 advantage for the home side in the 50th minute.
Frosinone refused to back down and secured the final equalizer in the 82nd minute. Schmid and Ghedjemis combined down the right flank to feed Aleksa Terzic, whose first-time shot deflected off Thomas Kristensen and into the back of the net, sealing the dramatic 4-4 draw.
