Former Inter Goalkeeper Walter Zenga Discusses Tactics Ahead of Como Match
Walter Zenga shared his tactical insights on Inter and Como, analyzing player positions and team philosophies.
Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Walter Zenga recently shared his thoughts on the tactical choices made by manager Cristian Chivu ahead of the team fixture against Como. Speaking on Sky Sport, Zenga analyzed the strategic decisions confronting both squads as they prepare to face each other.
Zenga addressed the defensive setup for Inter, specifically noting the deployment of Bastoni in the central role. While he admitted that the positioning does not personally convince him, he acknowledged the underlying logic, stating that it is difficult for the technical staff to leave out players like Carlos Augusto and Federico Dimarco.
The former goalkeeper also praised the overall organization of the Como club, suggesting that they are currently ahead of schedule in their development due to exceptional management. He highlighted manager Cesc Fàbregas as the ideal coach for their football philosophy, pointing out the synchronicity within the team.
Turning to individual talents, Zenga discussed Nico Paz, describing him as a potential natural successor to Lionel Messi in the Argentina national team following Messi eventual retirement, despite possessing a different playing style. When asked about how to stop Paz, Zenga remarked that handling him depends on tactical philosophy, noting that some managers might opt for a man-marking approach while others would prefer team containment.
Zenga further evaluated the Inter attacking department, labeling the club as the favorites in Italy due to a forward pool that has no equal. He specifically mentioned Pio Esposito as a strong center forward who helps the team advance, though he stressed that the young player must learn to maintain high consistency.
Meanwhile, Inter approaches the fixture following a solid defensive performance and a strong offensive display, though they have previously faced challenges with maintaining leads in matches against tough opponents. Fàbregas squad has also shown notable capability in European competition, setting the stage for a competitive encounter.
