Consumer Safety Watchdog Recalls Ambiano Hairdryers Over Shock Hazard
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission urges customers to immediately stop using certain Ambiano Ionic Hairdryers sold at Aldi due to potential electrical and fire hazards.
A major product safety warning and recall has been issued for thousands of hairdryers sold at Aldi stores, following concerns regarding potential electric shock and fire hazards. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued the alert for specific Ambiano Ionic Hairdryers sold in stores across Ireland between August and September.
Authorities estimate that approximately 5,400 affected units were purchased by consumers. The safety concern arises because the power cord may degrade over time, which can lead to exposed live wires or cause the device to overheat during operation.
Consumers who purchased one of the affected products are strongly advised to cease use immediately, even if the appliance appears to be functioning normally and remains in good physical condition. Impacted shoppers can return the items to any local Aldi store to receive a full refund.
Adele O'Sullivan, director of market surveillance at the consumer protection commission, emphasized the importance of prioritizing personal safety. 'Anyone who has one of these hairdryers should stop using it immediately and return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund,' O'Sullivan stated. 'We urge consumers not to take any risks with their safety.'
The recalled appliances were sold in four distinct colors: black, white, yellow, and orange. Buyers can identify whether they possess an affected unit by checking the unique product codes located on the device. The black model corresponds to code 4061462195075, while the white version carries code 4061462195211. Additionally, the yellow hairdryer is marked with code 4061462195310, and the orange model is identified by code 4061462195372.
In separate retail developments for the brand, upcoming seasonal product rollouts feature other Ambiano items, such as a flame-effect aroma diffuser and kitchen appliances. However, current consumer attention remains heavily focused on resolving the ongoing safety recall for the ionic hairdryers to prevent potential household accidents.
