The Rolex Paris Masters is underway in the French capital, bringing together top tennis stars for the final ATP 1000 tournament of the season. Among the early contenders making their mark on the hard courts of the Plenitude Arena is Casper Ruud, who kicked off his campaign with a solid performance.

During the opening rounds of the tournament, Ruud faced off against Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerúndolo. The Norwegian player maintained control from the baseline and demonstrated consistency throughout the match, ultimately overcoming his opponent in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

With his opening-round victory secured, Ruud is set to advance further into the draw. He will face ninth seed Rafael Jódar in the second round during the tournament's featured night session. Jódar secured his own progression by defeating Chile's Alejandro Tabilo in his opening match as he continues his pursuit of a spot at the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

The tournament's opening days have also brought mixed fortunes for other competitors on the tour. Several players are fighting desperately for the remaining qualification spots at the ATP Finals, while others have been forced to withdraw due to injuries. Italian player Flavio Cobolli pulled out of the event due to physical issues, allowing lucky loser Thiago Agustín Tirante to enter the main draw.

Meanwhile, other South American players experienced tough losses on the tournament's opening slate. Mariano Navone was eliminated by Frenchman Luca Van Assche in a tightly contested straight-set match, and Sebastián Báez fell to Spanish qualifier Daniel Mérida in straight sets as he struggled to find his rhythm on the indoor hard court surface.

The Paris Masters marks the 40th anniversary of the prestigious indoor event. Top seeds including Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Ben Shelton received byes into the second round, while seven-time champion Novak Djokovic continues his campaign to secure enough points to reach the year-end championship in Turin.

As the tournament progresses through its early rounds, attention will shift toward the high-stakes second-round matchups. Ruud's upcoming clash against Jódar highlights an action-packed schedule that will shape the final stages of the ATP race before the tour concludes in Italy later in November.
