A regular transit bus carrying approximately 20 children crashed into the facade of an apartment building in Bad Oldesloe, Germany, on Friday morning, October 30, 2026. The incident occurred shortly after 7:20 a.m. amid the morning rush hour and school commute, leaving multiple passengers and the driver injured.

According to preliminary police reports, the sequence of events began when the bus maneuvered around a vehicle stopped before a pedestrian crosswalk, grazing it in the process. The bus then rolled over a median strip, crossed into oncoming traffic, and scraped the side of another car. Following these initial collisions, the vehicle crossed over a roundabout, left the roadway, and smashed frontally into the exterior wall of a residential structure located near the intersection of Sülzberg and Kurparkallee streets.

Emergency responders reported that a total of 14 people sustained injuries in the crash, with some individuals suffering life-threatening conditions. The injured victims include several children as well as two people who were inside a ground-floor apartment of the impacted building at the time of the collision. Rescuers noted that the severity of the impact caused extensive damage to the front of the vehicle and the structure of the house.

The 63-year-old female driver of the bus was severely injured and trapped inside the severely deformed cabin. Firefighters and rescue teams had to use heavy hydraulic rescue equipment to cut her free from the wreckage. Rescue operations involved more than one hundred emergency personnel deployed from the Stormarn district, alongside neighboring units from Bad Segeberg and Lübeck.

Authorities established a large security perimeter around the crash site to facilitate the rescue effort. Additionally, an information and support center for family members was set up at the district council hall in Bad Oldesloe to assist relatives and provide updates on the condition of those affected.

Because of the heavy impact, structural engineers from the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) were called to inspect the residential building. Experts are currently evaluating the structural stability of the damaged masonry to determine whether the building has suffered critical compromise and whether it faces any risk of collapse. Officials stated that towing the bus out of the facade will not begin until engineers confirm the structural safety of the site.

The Lübeck public prosecutor's office has ordered an expert investigator to examine the precise circumstances of the crash. While police continue to gather witness testimony and analyze the involved vehicles, the exact cause that triggered the bus to swerve off its course remains undetermined.
