Television Ratings Reveal Mixed Results for German Networks
Recent television data highlights a strong prime-time performance for Kabel Eins alongside challenges for RTLzwei.
Recent television viewership data from Germany highlights a varied landscape for prime-time programming, with Kabel Eins securing strong audience numbers while rival network RTLzwei encountered difficulties during evening broadcasts.
Kabel Eins delivered a solid performance on Thursday evening with the launch of the new season of "Morlock Motors - Big Deals im Westerwald." The program attracted an average of 710,000 viewers at 8:15 PM, which included 200,000 individuals aged 14 to 49. This translated to a strong market share of 6.1 percent within the key demographic, placing the network on par with Vox's broadcast of the feature film "Ready Player One," which achieved 6.5 percent.
The momentum for Kabel Eins extended late into the night through a series of broadcast repeats. The format continued to secure a 6.0 percent market share at 10:18 PM, before climbing significantly past midnight to reach impressive figures of 9.6 percent and 9.8 percent.
These figures propelled Kabel Eins to a daily market share of 4.8 percent, positioning the channel comfortably ahead of RTLzwei, which recorded a daily market share of 3.8 percent among the 14-to-49 demographic on Thursday.
Despite daytime programming on RTLzwei performing well with shows such as "Der Trödeltrupp," "SOS - Retter im Einsatz," and "Hartz und herzlich," the network struggled to retain viewers during prime time.
Evening programming on RTLzwei faced immediate hurdles, as two consecutive repeats of "Genial daneben" struggled in the ratings with market shares of 2.7 percent and 2.5 percent. The subsequent premiere of the new season for "Promihof" also failed to meet expectations.
Linear broadcasts of "Promihof" each garnered a modest 2.1 percent market share within the target demographic. Overall viewership for the program stood at 220,000 people starting at 10:19 PM, dropping to 190,000 viewers an hour later.
As a result of these low figures, RTLzwei fell significantly behind competitors such as DMAX during the late-night slot. DMAX achieved strong results with "112: Feuerwehr im Einsatz," which captured 4.2 percent and later 6.8 percent market shares after 10:00 PM, following a steady debut from "Feuerwache 1 - Alarm in Ingolstadt."
